The Lounge Medspa™ is where you’ll find a selection of advanced, clinically proven nonsurgical treatments designed to refresh and refine your natural features. At our boutique practice in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon Dr. Moriyike Akinosun brings the same precision and expertise to med spa treatments that she uses for facial plastic surgery.

Whether you’re looking to smooth lines, restore volume, improve skin texture, or enhance facial balance, each treatment is performed with precision and a focus on natural-looking results.

Microneedling

Microneedling promotes the production of new collagen and elastin, improving skin tone, texture, and quality for fresher, more youthful-looking skin. At The Lounge Medspa™, Dr. Akinosun uses the FDA-approved SkinPen® microneedling device.

A microneedling treatment:

  • Improves fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces acne scars and texture irregularities
  • Enhances overall skin smoothness and radiance

The arrangement of the SkinPen needles makes the device extremely versatile and able to easily penetrate various areas of the body, including the face, neck, and décolleté.

What Happens During a SkinPen Treatment?

The procedure begins with thoroughly cleaning the treatment area and then applying a topical anesthetic to the skin’s surface to minimize discomfort. Dr. Akinosun adjusts the pen’s depth and speed based on your skin type and treatment goals. She then guides the pen across the skin using gentle, precise motions to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries per second.

What Is Recovery Like?

In the first 24 hours after your treatment, you may experience redness, mild swelling, or a sunburn-like sensation. Keep your skin clean and don’t apply any topical products to the treatment area. Avoid sun exposure for 3 days and skip the gym or any other activities that elevate your heart rate.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to reveal a smoother, more even complexion beneath. At The Lounge Medspa™, Dr. Akinosun offers customized options that include superficial, medium, and medical-grade deep peels. She recommends the depth of the peel after assessing your skin’s condition and discussing your goals.

Treatment options include:

  • Mandelic acid peel for gentle exfoliation and sensitive skin: This is a gentle, superficial peel that’s ideal for improving your skin’s texture and tone without the downtime of deeper peels. We recommend a series of treatments to get optimal results.
  • Jessner’s solution peel for acne, pigmentation, and other concerns: This combination of resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid can decrease oil production, minimize wrinkles, and improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin. It’s a light-to-medium treatment that causes the skin to flake and peel after 3 to 4 days. A series of 3 to 4 treatments yields the best results.
  • TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peels in strengths from 10% to 30%: A medium to deep TCA peel penetrates significantly into the skin’s layers and produces more dramatic results than lighter peels. A 30% TCA peel requires about 7 days of downtime. It can treat a range of skin conditions, and Dr. Akinosun customizes each TCA peel for your specific needs.

A Jessner’s peel may be combined with a TCA peel to enhance exfoliation and enable deeper skin penetration with a lower TCA.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a unique injectable treatment that works differently from traditional fillers. Rather than providing immediate volume, it stimulates your body’s natural collagen production over time.

Sculptra is most commonly used in the cheeks to restore structure and improve overall facial contour. Results develop gradually, creating a subtle, long-lasting improvement in volume and skin quality.

Sculptra vs. Dermal Fillers

Sculptra belongs to a category of injectable treatments called biostimulators. Unlike fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® that are made with hyaluronic acid, Sculptra is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Even though you may notice some fullness immediately after an injection, it is temporary. Over time, the PLLA microparticles stimulate natural collagen production to restore facial volume, improve skin texture, and smooth deep wrinkles.

While hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6 to 18 months, depending on the product, Sculptra results can last 2 years or more. Unlike HA fillers, however, Sculptra results can’t be reversed. It’s important to choose an experienced injector with the training and expertise to use Sculptra with precision.
